Tuesday Activities

Our first full day of activities!

After a breakfast of bacon, mushroom, veggie sausages or cereal we hit the PGL activities in our teams. All of our Lydiard teams today have done raft building, the giant swing, trapeze and abseiling (someone had a long chat with Mr George about the difference between abseiling and zip wire after he said that they were  ‘basically the same thing’).

Green team’s highlights has been watching each other’s expressions on the giant swing – Mrs Morrison is sure that she left her stomach behind somewhere!

Yellow team’s highlights has been abseiling because everyone conquered their fears and raft building because everybody learned the knots really quickly.

Mr George has tried to cop out of a highlight because ‘they were all excellent’. When pressed for a real answer, the blue team highlight has been an amazing raft building session with some excellent team work and a couple of dips in the pond!

We’ve had an excellent dinner (lasagne, vegetable kiev or chicken nuggets), have visited the shop (this year’s favourites are millions and squeezy toys) and are now preparing for Ambush – an action packed game of hide and seek in the dark!

There’ll be a final update tonight, with photos, when Mr George has found some decent wi-fi!

The First Day

What an exciting day it has been!

First up, we handed out the Y6 Leavers’ hoodies (black and white with a snazzy splash of grey this year) and played some team games to get ourselves in the PGL spirit. Mr George’s personal favourite was a game called ‘Space Station’ that involved some intrepid young astronauts making a human chain to save some poor, abandoned space animals.

After lunch at school, it was time to make the trip to PGL. With the suitcases all fitting in the coach (just about!) we set off and made it to Liddington in record time. The rest of our afternoon was spent exploring the centre, playing games and getting to know our guides, Brett and Ellie. We were blown away by the dinner which offered steak pie (Mr George was very happy), vegetarian curry (Mrs Morrison was very happy) or sausages with onion gravy (Mr George was very happy again).

Once we had settled into our rooms, we played some evening entertainment activities. This evening was ‘Wacky Races’ – a series of races that were, indeed, wacky. Whether it be the dizzy race (that involved spinning around a dizzy stick first), the chicken race (which made us question whether any of the children have ever seen a chicken or, at the very least, Chicken Run) or the longest line race (that apparently involved Mrs Morrison lying face down in a wet patch of the astroturf) we had an amazing time for our first activity. We are looking forward to tomorrow night as well, where we will be playing Ambush.

We’ll be waking up ready for a 7.30 breakfast tomorrow and are getting excited about the range of activities we have got lined up for Tuesday which include raft building, zipline, trapeze, and giant swing. Mrs Morrison is promising lots of great shots with her camera ready for the blog. All the children are safely tucked up in bed, now, and Mr George has spent the last fifteen minutes finding the only spot on the PGL site with wi-fi!

See you tomorrow!
